WATCH: Russian influencers cut Chanel bags in protest of designer’s Russophobia

Russia’s social media celebrities are cutting up their Chanel bags after being banned from purchasing Chanel’s luxury goods.

“If Chanel House does not respect its clients, why do we have to respect Chanel House?” Russian model Victoria Bonya asked in a Wednesday Instagram post.

Bonya used industrial scissors to tear through her black quilted Chanel handbag, according to the video posted for her 9.3 million Instagram followers.

“Bye-bye,” she said, as she threw the pieces of the bag.

Chanel not only shut down its stores within Russia following the invasion of Ukraine, but it also stopped selling its products to individuals who intend to move the products into the aggressor nation, according to a report.

Marina Ermoshkina, an actress and television host with over 299,000 followers, used a pair of garden shears to slice up a dark gray handbag from the luxury house.

“Not a single bag, not a single thing is worth my love for my Motherland,” she captioned the Instagram post. “It’s not worth my respect for myself. I am against Russophobia. I am against a brand that supports Russophobia.”

“Chanel is just an accessory,” Ermoshkina continued. “An accessory that at some point decided to humiliate people, my compatriots, decided to discriminate against people on the basis of nationality, which I will not tolerate. After all, the main thing is principles, and not what is in your hands, but what is inside you.”

DJ Katya Guseva followed up on Ermoshkina’s action and used a pair of scissors to destroy her black Chanel handbag.

“I always dreamed that a Chanel handbag would appear in my wardrobe, and it happened last year,” she told her more than 587,000 Instagram followers. “But after I learned about the brand’s policy toward Russians, I decided to remove these bags from my daily life until the situation changes.”
