NFL star apologizes after calling Hitler ‘genius’

Washington Commanders star defensive tackle Jonathan Allen apologized Wednesday in the wake of mounting criticism that he received after calling Adolf Hitler a “genius.”

The Pro Bowler had been asked on social media which three individuals, dead or alive, he would like to have dinner with.

“My grandad, hitler and micheal Jackson,” Allen tweeted back.

“He’s a military genius and I love military tactics but honestly I would want to pick his brain as to why he did what he did,” Allen wrote about the German dictator. “I’m also assuming that the people I’ve chosen have to answer all my questions honestly.”

Allen faced a wave of backlash and deleted the tweets.

“Dude. Hitler? What the ACTUAL F***? Do you have any inkling as to how unbelievably hurtful it is to hear for a Jewish kid who likes football that YOU WANNA HAVE A MEAL WITH HITLER?” one user shot back.

“I’m sorry i offended you that definitely was not my attention, I was just answering a question,” Allen replied.

The NFL star tweeted out a formal apology Wednesday afternoon.
