RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — More than $13 million in federal funding is headed to Virginia to improve mental health services for students and to expand school safety programs.
The funding announced Friday by Gov. Terry McAuliffe involves two five-year grants.
The larger, totaling $9.7 million, is from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. It provides training for teachers and other public school workers to respond to mental health issues in children and youth and to get them the services they need.
The other grant totals $3.5 million. The U.S. Department of Education funding is aimed at improving student behavior.
