Conservative blog RedState issued a correction Monday evening to a piece that questioned if Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg was actually on campus in Parkland, Fla., when the mass shooting occurred last month.
The article was prompted after Hogg, one of the most outspoken voices following the shooting, made comments to CBS where he claimed he rode his bike to campus at 6 p.m., after the shooting, with his camera in tow.
“If Hogg was at school when the shooting began, saying he heard gunshots and the fire alarm, then why is he talking about riding a bike three miles to get to school on the day of the shooting?” author Sarah Rumpf wrote in her original article.
However, Rumpf issued a correction Monday saying a Vox article clarifies that Hogg was on campus during the shooting and then returned to interview people near the campus later. She also apologized for the error and said the original articles remains in “strikethrough.”
“After reviewing all of this, it appears that the problem was that CBS included a very confusing quote without context,” Rumpf said in the update. “Hogg was on campus during the shooting and returned several hours later to interview people across the street.”
In total, 17 people lost their lives in the shooting. The update from RedState comes just days after the March For Our Lives occurred on Saturday, which was designed to push for stricter gun laws.
