Tiffany Trump calls for justice for George Floyd in ‘Blackout Tuesday’ post

Tiffany Trump joined the “Blackout Tuesday” trend that is being used to show support for the black community and promote justice for George Floyd.

“Alone we can achieve so little; together we can achieve so much,” the president’s daughter wrote, quoting Helen Keller on Instagram alongside a black square. She also included the hashtags #blackoutTuesday and #justiceforgeorgefloyd.

Celebrities such as Katy Perry and LeBron James have also posted black squares on their Instagram pages in support of the movement. Activists have said to avoid using the hashtag #blacklivesmatter because they don’t want other news to get drowned out by the trend.

Viacom CBS joined the trend by having 10 of its channels stop regular broadcasting Monday to show viewers a dark background and almost nine minutes of breathing sounds with the words, “I can’t breathe,” to bring attention to the death of Floyd, an unarmed black man, in police custody last week.

Trump’s post comes one day after her father made a speech in the White House Rose Garden against the riots that have occurred in some major cities after what began as peaceful protests over racism and police brutality. The president threatened to send in the military if states are unable to control the unrest.
