Trump said he plans to meet with two to three more candidates before he announces a successor to Justice Anthony Kennedy, who is retiring, on July 9.

“I think the person that is chosen will be outstanding,” the president told reporters before a meeting in the Oval Office with Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands.

Kennedy announced last week he will step down from the high court, effective July 31.

With Kennedy’s retirement, Trump will have the opportunity to name a second Supreme Court justice, the first of which was Justice Neil Gorsuch.

The president said he plans to choose his nominee from a list of 25 candidates released by the White House. Federal judges Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, Thomas Hardiman, Amul Thapar, and Raymond Kethledge are considered to be the frontrunners.
