Montgomery union chief on leave to focus on family

The Washington Examiner has obtained a public statement from Gino Renne, president of Montgomery’s Municipal and County Government Employees Organization, who faces assault charges stemming from a domestic dispute with his wife. He is now on leave.

It reads:

I do not wish for anything to distract the union from its mission to better the lives of our members. However, I will not waiver from my promise to steer this union through these challenging economic times. But, for the time being the immediate focus must be on my family.

During the week of June 21st, my wife Joan and I will be taking a respite to

spend some much-needed time together and seek the necessary guidance to

strengthen the bonds of our marriage. I apologize and deeply regret that our

personal matters have become the subject of public interest.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out to Joan and me with your kind

thoughts and prayers. Your expressions of support and the love of our family

has helped to make our priorities clear.

During my brief absence, Secretary-Treasurer, Yvette Cuffie, will assume the

duties of my office. The Executive Board and I are fully confident that she

and our dedicated staff will manage our union’s affairs effectively.

Again, my very best wishes and thanks to all of you for your support. Upon

my return I look forward to continuing our struggle together for economic

security.
