More than 1 million Georgia voters have participated in early voting, shattering previous midterm records, according to the secretary of state’s office.
Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced Tuesday that Georgians have been showing up at early voting locations in droves with two weeks left before Election Day. Early voting precincts are open across the state six days a week for three weeks leading up to Nov. 8. Fifteen Georgia counties are open on Sunday for early voting.

“This isn’t a victory lap yet,” Raffensperger told reporters at a press conference at the state Capitol on Tuesday. “We need to let them know their vote will be counted and counted accurately, not that their vote will be stolen.”
By the time polls close on Nov. 8, voter turnout is expected to blow away previous midterm records easily. In the last midterm election, about 3.9 million Georgians voted early.
Georgia was dragged into the national spotlight following the 2020 presidential election that saw President Joe Biden beat former President Donald Trump. Trump and his allies immediately claimed voter fraud, despite failing to find proof. Trump later asked Raffensperger to “find” the number of votes needed to secure a win illegally, which he refused to do. Trump also went after Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp for refusing to meddle in the election process. The former president vowed to unseat Kemp and Raffensperger and tried to paint them as Enemy No. 1.
