Washingtonian magazine has named the Montgomery County Council president among “Washington’s 100 Most Powerful Women.” Ervin, D-Silver Spring, is Montgomery’s first black woman council member. She heads the council’s Education Committee and sits on the Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee as well as her duties as council president. In explaining why Ervin makes the list, Washingtonian’s October issue cites her work on the county’s budget and controversial legislation curbing unions’ collective bargaining rights.
