‘Million Maskless March’ and mask burning event planned in Florida

Floridians who oppose face mask mandates as a result of the coronavirus pandemic are attempting to organize a massive protest and mask burning event.

“You are invited to the Million Maskless March and Mask Burning, Saturday April 10, 2021 at 3pm at the Corner of A1A and Las Olas in Ft Lauderdale!” protest organizer Chris Nelson posted online recently, explaining that April 10 “marks one year of mask tyranny in Broward County and we will mark that date with a celebration of freedom!”

Nelson says the protest has been approved by authorities and encouraged people to bring signs that contain phrases with large letters that say “MASKS ARE SLAVERY,” “NO MORE MASKS,” and “MASKS OFF CHILDREN.”

Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has been one of the most vocal national critics of lockdown measures and rolled back coronavirus restrictions in his state, including the face mask mandate, back in September in a move that he says has since been vindicated.

“The lockdowns failed to stop the virus but did a great deal of societal damage along the way — damage that a more targeted approach, seeking to reduce total harms, would have been able to avoid (and did, in places like Sweden and Florida),” DeSantis wrote, adding that “policy makers who bucked the elites & challenged the narrative have been proven right to do so.”

Over the weekend, DeSantis defiantly spoke out against President Joe Biden’s reported plan to implement a virus vaccine passport system that would limit travel for people who have not been vaccinated and pledged an executive order to prevent it from happening in Florida.

“We are not supporting doing any vaccine passports in the state of Florida,” the governor said. “It’s completely unacceptable for either the government or the private sector to impose upon you the requirement that you show proof of vaccine to just simply be able to participate in normal society.”
