Despite some rumors circulating around social media, CNN has not fired Andy Cohen but released a statement saying Cohen was talked to and that he would be back as a host next year.
Alongside Anderson Cooper, Cohen was hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve countdown when he poked fun at ABC’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve broadcast while referencing the smoke coming from “Ryan Seacrest’s group of losers that are performing behind us.” He added, “I mean, with all due [respect], if you’ve been watching ABC tonight, you’ve seen nothing. I’m sorry.”
“Andy said something he shouldn’t have on live TV,” CNN said in a statement to E! News. “We’ve addressed it with him and look forward to having him back again next year.”
Cohen admitted to being drunk while on the air.
“I was a hair over-served last night, but man did I have fun! I hope you did too,” he wrote in a post on his Instagram account.
The late-night talk show host also took jabs at outgoing New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, as well as Mark Zuckerberg. However, Cohen said he only regretted one comment while speaking on his SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live show.
“The only thing that I regret saying, the only thing, is that I slammed the ABC broadcast, and I really like Ryan Seacrest, and he’s a great guy,” Cohen said. “And I really regret saying that, and I was just stupid and drunk and feeling it.”
Cohen also noted that the situation is being blown out of proportion.
“The headlines about Ryan Seacrest are all, like, I trash Ryan Seacrest,” Cohen said. “I’m like, I really, I hope he hears the clip. You know what I mean?”
