MrBeast reaches 100 million subscribers on YouTube in rare feat

A YouTuber known for making videos similar to game shows in which players compete for cash prizes, as well as videos of him donating money to charities, reached over 100 million subscribers on the video platform on Thursday.

MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, celebrated the rare achievement by watching his subscriber count in a livestream on YouTube. His channel is only the fifth to reach the milestone, behind T-Series, Cocomelon, SET India, and PewDiePie.

“YouTube is the one thing that’s always made me happy and I’m grateful I get to do this all day everyday,” Donaldson wrote on social media. “Also I just want to say that no matter how big I get I’ll never own a mansion, yacht, Lamborghini etc. All I want is to make the best videos possible and help as many people as I can while doing it.”

Donaldson’s most popular video, “$456,000 Squid Game In Real Life!,” had 456 people compete in games that were recreations of Netflix’s Squid Game television series, and it has received 275,916,729 views since it was published in November 2021. In 2019, he started a project titled Team Trees in which, for every $1 that people donated to the project, the Arbor Day Foundation nonprofit organization would plant a tree. As of July, 23,903,235 trees have been planted through the project.

YouTube gives “Creator Awards” to channels that reach subscriber milestones, such as 100,000 subscribers, 1 million subscribers, and 10 million subscribers. While YouTube does not have an award for 100 million subscribers, it still shared its enthusiasm for Donaldson’s achievement on social media.

Donaldson and Google, the owner of YouTube, have not responded to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
