‘Have to be answered for’: Head of White House correspondents group says Biden must address sexual assault claims

The president of the White House Correspondents Association said Joe Biden would not be able to dodge questions about his alleged sexual assault of Tara Reade forever.

Reade, a former staffer, has accused Biden of assaulting her when she worked in his Senate office. Several family members and acquaintances have said that Reade told them about the assault when it took place in 1993. While Biden’s campaign has denied the allegations, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee has remained quiet so far.

During a Wednesday interview with Fox News, Jonathan Karl, who also reports for ABC News, said Biden would need to address the allegations at some point.

“There is no question … that these allegations against Vice President Biden are going to have to be answered for,” he said. “He’s going to have to answer these questions.”

Karl was asked to address the silence from many mainstream outlets on Reade’s allegations. Several major outlets, including ABC News, have barely covered the accusations if at all. Karl said that he believed the mounting evidence would force more outlets, including his own, to cover the story.

“ABC News just is about to post a story on the allegations against Joe Biden,” he said. “When I go into that briefing room, I’m not asking questions of Joe Biden. If, if I was, it would be a different set of questions than when I’m asking questions of Donald Trump.”

He later added: “I think you are seeing the story as more evidence has come forward — it’s, it’s being covered. In fact, I think it’s on the front page of the Washington Post today.”
