Blumenthal: Benghazi Probe ‘Belongs to the Past’

Clinton confidante Sidney Blumenthal dismissed the ongoing investigation into Hillary Clinton’s role in the attack on the Benghazi consulate in Libya Thursday, calling it a thing of the past.

“I think the whole Benghazi Committee belongs to the past of the campaign,” Blumenthal said, referring to the House committee responsible for investigating the attack that killed four Americans.

Blumenthal said that the Benghazi probe, in addition to the FBI investigation into Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of state, was contributing to Clinton’s high negative rating among voters. Still, he appeared certain that both would be resolved soon.

“Eventually the Benghazi Committee will file its report,” Blumenthal said. “But once the email business is resolved, then I think some of [the high negatives] will fall off, but not all of it.”

He would also not say whether he was still emailing with Clinton.

“Do I still email with Hillary Clinton? We’re friends. We’ve been friends —,” Blumenthal said. “We have been friends for 30 years.”
