Rain expected this week ahead of sunny, cooler weekend

Get ready for another rainy week. Forecasters say showers are possible in the D.C. area for much of the next several days.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely today and overnight, mainly between 5 p.m. and 2 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Parts of the D.C. area could receive more than three-quarters of an inch of rain.

For Wednesday, forecasters are predicting chances of rain in the morning. The Weather Service expects a 30-percent chance of rain, with new rainfall of less than one-tenth of an inch. In the District and other parts of the region, there’s also a 20-percent chance of rain Wednesday night.

After a reprieve from the rain Thursday, wet weather could return for the end of the work week and the beginning of the weekend, forecasters said. There’s a 40-percent chance of rain in the District on Friday — as well as a 70-percent chance Friday night, when a thunderstorm is possible.

Saturday and Sunday are expected to be rain-free, however, and cooler temperatures are on their way this weekend, too.

While today’s high temperature in the District is predicted to be about 90 degrees, Saturday and Sunday’s highs are expected to be in the 70s.
