VIDEO: Rick Snyder, Mark Schauer locked at 40 percent in Michigan

Republican Gov. Rick Snyder is finding the road to re-election to be a challenging one. According to a new poll, the Republican governor is tied with Democratic challenger Mark Schauer. Both candidates have 40 percent of the vote.

The Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling released a poll this week that shows the two men tied in the Mitten State, but that’s bad news for Snyder who, in the past two PPP polls, led Schauer by 4 points. Snyder received a boost in the polls last year for his decision to let Detroit go bankrupt, however the poll released this week suggests those sentiments have faded.

Snyder has had a hard time connecting with independent and undecided voters while Schauer, who still remains largely unknown across the state, is winning the independents. Snyder has a 54 percent disapproval rating, according to the poll.
