Motorcyclists turn out in droves for Florida ride honoring Parkland shooting victim

The father of Parkland, Fla., shooting victim Meadow Pollack held a motorcycle fundraiser Saturday to raise money in honor of his daughter.

Andrew Pollack organized the “Ride for Meadow,” which began at the Palm Beach Harley Davidson in West Palm Beach, Fla., and a will end at his hometown of Coral Springs, Fla. The bikers will have a police escort for their 43-mile ride, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Pollack, who said he was expecting a couple thousand participants, hopes to use the money raised to build a playground in his daughter’s honor.

Meadow was one of the 17 people killed during a shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School last month. Her grieving father captivated the nation with his heartfelt and passionate plea to President Trump during a roundtable discussion on gun control.

Meadow’s classmates, many of whom have taken on the role of gun control activists since the massacre, attended the fundraiser and posted pictures and videos to social media.

In an interview with Fox News on Saturday, Pollack said his fundraiser isn’t “political” because children’s safety isn’t about “being on the left or the right.”

“I spoke from the heart when I spoke at the White House and I speak from the heart and people feel it and that’s why it’s such an important message,” he said. “This isn’t a political message. This is a message of just being American.”

“We failed as a society if we can’t send our kids to school,” Pollack added.
