At least 23 people in Boston were injured Friday following a collision between two trolleys, forcing the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority Green Line service to stop temporarily.
Footage from the scene near Babcock Street showed two damaged trolleys halted on the tracks adjacent to one another as injured victims were rushed off in ambulances. Boston Emergency Medical Services said there was a total of 23 victims with no life-threatening injuries.
The train service between Packard’s Corner and Kenmore was suspended around 6:15 p.m. local time, the MBTA wrote on social media, noting shuttle buses would temporarily replace the B Branch trains.
“All of a sudden, the train just jerked forward really quickly. It was like the worst amusement park ride you can imagine,” one witness told local station WHDH.
A man inside one of the trolleys said his train car was hit from behind as some people inside were thrown to the floor from the collision, according to a local NBC affiliate, which also reported witnesses who described the sound of the collision to being similar to fireworks.

One witness described the injuries he saw.
“One girl hit her head, so she had an ice pack on it. I think one guy sprained his wrist,” a man visiting from Nashville said. “The worst that I saw was the girl — I think she did something to her shoulder, and she looked pretty badly beaten.”
The Boston Fire Department released images from the crash, showing the front of one trolley with misshapen metal and broken glass.

No other details were immediately given by authorities regarding the incident.
