Go-go celebs head lineup for Chuck Brown memorial Thursday

The funeral for D.C. music legend Chuck Brown on Thursday promises to feature a who’s who list of go-go artists and other local celebrities in attendance and performing for the man known as the Godfather of Go-Go.

Celebrity guests, according to the latest release by organizers, include: Donnie Simpson (host), Doug E. Fresh, Mike Epps, Ledisi, Kindred the Family Soul, Tom Joyner, Raheem DeVaughn, Sugar Bear, Omarosa, Cliff Jones, Tye Tribbett, Big G, Huggy Lowdown, Chris Paul, Rock Newman, The Chuck Brown Band and more to be announced.

Local officials in attendance will include Mayor Vincent Gray, Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, Council Chairman Kwame Brown, Councilman Marion Barry and other VIPs. The memorial, which is free and open to the public, will celebrate his life and contributions to the District’s and the nation’s musical and cultural heritage.

The memorial service will be held Thursday from noon to 4 p.m. at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 801 Mount Vernon Place. Doors open at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the nonprofit Chuck Brown Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 4558, Silver Spring, MD 20914.
