Documents show Libyan president met with Bill Clinton after supporting nonprofit

The watchdog group Judicial Watch on Tuesday released another 276 pages of State Department documents that show the president of Libya’s National Congress may have received a meeting with former president Bill Clinton in exchange for supporting the Clinton Global Initiative.

The documents released show that just two days after the Sept. 11, 2012 attack on the U.S. embassy in Benghazi, President Mohamed Yusuf al-Magariaf sought to support a function of the Clinton Global Initiative during a visit to the United Nations in New York. The emails also show that then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s chief of staff, Cheryl Mills, quickly approved the request, even after al-Magariaf’s team expressed concern that it could look unseemly in light of the “odd timing.”
