Indiana Gov. Mike Pence to endorse Ted Cruz

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is set to endorse Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz, sources confirmed to the Washington Examiner.

Conservative radio host Greg Garrison teased the endorsement on Twitter Friday morning, saying the popular Republican governor would join his show at 12:06 p.m. to make a “significant announcement.”

A local reporter also quoted Cruz noting Pence’s pending endorsement.

All three presidential hopefuls — Cruz, front-runner Donald Trump and Ohio Gov. John Kasich — have met with Pence in recent days. The Hoosier State’s primary is Tuesday with 57 delegates at stake.

Cruz didn’t confirm nor deny Pence’s forthcoming endorsement, but said he was an “optimistic, positive, unifying force” and a “strong leader that I respect.”

“I’d enthusiastically welcome his support,” Cruz told reporters Friday.

In a RealClearPolitics average of polls, Trump leads Cruz by roughly 5 percentage points. Preventing Trump from winning Indiana is seen as the last way to stop him from reaching the 1,237 delegates needed to lock up the GOP nomination.
