A Brooklyn man was arrested by federal authorities after he threatened to shoot a U.S. senator who spoke ill of President Trump.
Michael Brogan, 51, was upset about an Internet video he saw of a female senator criticizing Trump and called their D.C. office on Dec. 4, leaving a threatening voice message.
Federal authorities aren’t identifying the senator, according to the New York Daily News.
“Not to trivialize it, I wish in retrospect I didn’t do it, but I don’t think it’s that big,” Brogan told the newspaper. “I didn’t think it was going to come to this.”
According to a criminal complaint, Brogan left a fiery message for the senator during which he said: “I’m going to put a bullet in ya. When I’m in D.C. and you’re there, I got your f—ing mark you stupid b—h,”
Brogan was released on $50,000 bond Wednesday, and must wear an ankle monitor.
The arrest comes after Democratic lawmakers and figures were targeted in a spate of pipe bombs in October. Cesar Sayoc, who showcased a deep hatred of Democrats and unwavering support for Trump, was arrested by federal authorities in connection with the incidents.
