North Korea threatened to send piles of propaganda leaflets into South Korea as relations between the two countries continue to sour.
Some of the leaflets will reportedly feature depictions of South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s face smeared with cigarette butts, North Korean state-run media reported, according to NBC News.
“The enraged people across the country are actively pushing forward with the preparations for launching a large-scale distribution of leaflets to pour the leaflets of punishment upon those in South Korea,” the Korean Central News Agency said.
“Every action should be met with proper reaction and only when one experiences it oneself, one can feel how offending it is. … The South Korean authorities will face a really horrible time,” it continued.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, recently announced that North Korea would cut off communication with South Korea because of dissident groups sending leaflets and aid across the border using large balloons. South Korea responded by saying it would pursue legal action against two such groups.
The rift between the longtime adversaries widened when the hermit nation bombed an inter-Korean liaison office last Tuesday. South Korea’s Ministry of Defense said Tuesday that it will continue to monitor North Korea and maintain a “resolute military posture.”
North Korea has threatened to send troops into demilitarized areas along the border in violation of a 2018 inter-Korean military treaty.
