Vice President Pence assured a group of small business owners and employees on Thursday that the Trump administration will soon “lift the weight of Obamacare” off of their backs.
Speaking to workers at a picture frame manufacturer in Springdale, Ohio, Pence told an intimate group of small business executives that the White House is working day and night to repeal the Affordable Care Act and develop a market-based alternative that remedies issues like skyrocketing insurance premiums and lower-quality care.
“The Obamacare nightmare is about to be over,” Pence told employees of Frame USA after a touring their factory. The healthcare law’s replacement, he said, will be “built on a foundation of freedom and personal responsibility.”
Pence was accompanied by Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, who said the administration is working “every day” to get Washington out of the way and allow Americans to choose their own health care. The vice president said Americans are “truly fortunate” to have Price at the helm of HHS, and helping to guide Congress and the White House on the repeal and replace effort.
“He’s going to make a great difference in the life of our nation,” Pence said.
Prior to his remarks in Springdale, the vice president spoke with Ohio Gov. John Kasich about healthcare and Medicaid reform. Kasich also met with President Trump last week, when he encouraged Trump to reconsider his campaign promise to convert Medicaid into a block grant program.
Pence said Thursday that he and Trump will guarantee that “the most vulnerable are seen to and taken care of.”
