Neighbor says she witnessed fatal shooting

The scene was like a Wild West shoot-out in the middle of Baltimore, a prosecutor said.

Late one afternoon last May, on a Northwest Baltimore block where children were playing, Daron West shot at Antione L. Hudson, who allegedly shot back and injured West, a neighbor said in Baltimore City CircuitCourt on Wednesday.

Hudson and West are co-defendants at trial this week ? West is charged with attempted murder and Hudson with illegal gun possession. But theirs is only part of the story.

Neighbor Mia Morris came to court Wednesday and said she saw it happen.

Mentioned in court, but not in front of the jury, was that the mother of one of the defendants has been charged with witness intimidation in connection with the case.

Morris testified to the jury about her fear that others would find out she went to the police.

The incident began late in the afternoon on May 16, when a gunfight broke out in the 4000 block of Oakford Avenue in Northwest Baltimore, according to court documents.

A Baltimore City police officer found West lying in a doorway of his home and bleeding from four gunshot wounds, court documents said.

West told a police officer he was shot as he was coming out of his house. Documents, along with Morris, allege that West shot first at Hudson, who then allegedly picked up a gun and shot back, hitting West in the legs and the buttock.

Hudson is only on trial for the gun violation.

Morris said she was standing on her porch when the shooting began and was horrified to see people rush for cover while leaving behind several children.

“The adults had sense enough to run,” Morris said. “The babies was still playing out there like it was any other day.”

The defense brought up that Morris at first misidentified one of the defendants in a photo lineup, apparently implying she didn?t really know who she saw commit the crime.
