Trump using free trip to rally to raise money from grassroots donors

Former President Donald Trump has flipped the switch on summer fundraising, issuing two email appeals for cash and offering one lucky donor a free trip to his first campaign rally since exiting the White House.

Trump is raising money through Save America, the political action committee he formed last year to buttress post-presidency political activities. The former president signed two fundraising emails from the PAC that were directed at grassroots donors and landed in inboxes Tuesday. The first criticized President Joe Biden for trying to “undo everything I accomplished for the American people.”

To encourage contributions, the second email announced a drawing that would reward the winning donor and one companion with “VIP passes,” airfare and hotel accommodations to a forthcoming Trump rally, plus a photograph with the former president. He previously announced plans to resume holding campaign-style events but has yet to reveal a date and location for his first gathering since leaving office.

“I am about to announce my FIRST TRUMP RALLY back with the American People,” Trump writes in the email. “But I realized I’m missing one very important detail: YOU.”

ARIZONA REPUBLICAN SPENDS ON ADS IN NEW JERSEY TO REACH TRUMP

There has been some concern in Republican circles that Trump’s fundraising efforts would siphon money from the party campaign committees dedicated to supporting GOP candidates in the 2022 midterm elections. In addition to Save America, there are a host of new political groups run by Trump allies that could compete for resources with existing Republican organizations already engaged in similar activities.

Trump has said he is not trying to sideline the Republican National Committee, the congressional campaign committees, or other party groups. But the former president concedes his efforts stem partly from the fact that he believes GOP organizations are not as effective as they should be.
