Trump says Steve Scalise is ‘brave’ as he makes emotional return to Congress

President Trump called House Majority Whip Steve Scalise “brave” as he returned to Congress on Thursday, three months after being shot at a congressional baseball practice game.

“He’s a special man. Brave,” Trump said at the White House.

“Just a great guy, great friend of mine. We’re so excited. What happened to him was horrible. We are so happy,” Trump continued.

Scalise received a standing ovation from House members as he made an emotional return to Congress.

The top Republican thanked a number of world leaders in his speech to lawmakers, but did not mention Trump.

Trump visited Scalise in the hospital as he was recovering from being shot in the hip.
