President Trump called House Majority Whip Steve Scalise “brave” as he returned to Congress on Thursday, three months after being shot at a congressional baseball practice game.
“He’s a special man. Brave,” Trump said at the White House.
“Just a great guy, great friend of mine. We’re so excited. What happened to him was horrible. We are so happy,” Trump continued.

Scalise received a standing ovation from House members as he made an emotional return to Congress.
The top Republican thanked a number of world leaders in his speech to lawmakers, but did not mention Trump.
