About 200 people booed and walked out of Amy Schumer’s stand-up show in Tampa, Fla., after she mocked Donald Trump Sunday night.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, audience members streamed out of the Amalie Arena after Schumer called the Republican nominee an “orange, sexual-assaulting, fake-college-starting monster,” among other things.
Schumer had asked a man who said he was going to vote for Trump to join her onstage. She asked him why he believed in Trump, to which he said Trump has his support mostly because he doesn’t like or trust Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
“Do you get worried at all with how impulsive he is that he gets so fired up from ‘Saturday Night Live’ doing a skit on him?” Schumer asked. “Do you worry he’ll be impulsive and get us in a lot of f—king trouble we can’t get out of?”
“I’m not really voting for Trump, I’m voting against Hillary,” the man said to applause from the audience, to which Schumer dismissively told him to go sit down.
That’s when Schumer started heavily insulting Trump, prompting many in attendance to boo and get up to leave.
Schumer issued a statement about the incident to Entertainment Weekly on Monday, in which she sounded unfazed by the Tampa audience’s reaction to her Trump jokes.
“I loved the crowd and my show in Tampa last night!” Schumer said. “I want to thank the 8,400 people who stayed. We had a great time! We have always depended on comedians to make us laugh and tell the truth. I am proud to continue that tradition.”
