Third person dies after police Taser strike

A 50-year-old man became the third person to die this year in Baltimore City after being struck with a police Taser gun, officials said.

Police struck Thomas Campbell, 50, with the weapon shortly after 11:30 p.m. Friday after officers responded to a call on the 1000 block of Payson Street for a man jumping on a utility company truck, said Baltimore police spokesman Sterling Clifford.

Campbell ran into a nursing home basement and began acting aggressively and resisting arrest, Clifford said.

During the struggle, officers struck him twice with Taser guns. He was pronounced dead early Saturday.
