A New Jersey man was caught on video mocking protesters by reenacting the death of George Floyd by placing his knee on someone laying facedown on the ground.
NBC10 of Philadelphia reports that officials confirmed to them the man was a corrections officer from South Jersey.
“We have been made aware that one of our officers from Bayside State Prison participated in the filming of a hateful and disappointing video that mocked the killing of George Floyd,” said a statement from the New Jersey Department of Corrections.
The statement did not identify the name of the man who was in the video but said he has been suspended while the agency investigates the matter.
The video, which was widely circulated across social media, shows a group of bystanders looking at protesters with Trump 2020 flags and a flag displaying “All Lives Matter” while one man knelt on another individual.
A joint statement from Franklin Township Mayor Jake Bruno and Police Chief Brian Zimmer said they were appalled and saddened by the actions seen in the video.
“Without an understanding and mutual respect for all individuals, we can never aspire to create a united community based upon the idea of human respect and dignity for all,” the statement read.
