“I agree with the daughter,” Hatch, R-Utah, told the Washington Post on Tuesday. “I shouldn’t have said anything yesterday. I agree a hundred percent with her.”
Meghan McCain, co-host of “The View,” told Hatch to relax after he lambasted her father over his decision.
“I would like everybody to take a collective breath and chill out on my dad for a second, especially Orrin Hatch,” she said Tuesday. “We’re all doing good and hanging in.”
The Republican senator also reportedly sent a letter of apology to McCain.
Hatch told reporters Monday that that he thought it was “ridiculous” that McCain requested Trump not attend his funeral.
“Well, he’s the president of the United States, and he’s a very good man,” Hatch said. “But it’s up to [McCain]. I think John should have his own wishes fulfilled with regard to who attends the funeral.”
