Five people were found dead in an apartment on Sunday afternoon, along with unknown substances that police speculate could be “illicit narcotics.”
Three women and two men were discovered dead inside the apartment, according to officers from the Commerce City Police Department in Colorado, 9News reported. A baby and an adult were also discovered and were taken to the hospital, according to police.
“I hope the parents were not in there, but I’ve been doing this long enough I would probably be safe to suggest that the parents probably were inside,” said Commerce City Police Chief Clint Nichols.

“And so for the infant — that’s going to be a long time without parents,” Nichols said.
Around 3:45 p.m., emergency services personnel arrived at the apartment after receiving a call about people being unconscious, according to the police. Police are unclear as to who made the call.

The apartment was tested by firefighters for hazardous gas, with results coming back negative, Nichols said, adding that while unknown substances were discovered, testing will need to be done to determine what those substances are.
At this time, while investigators do not believe that this was a violent crime and do not perceive any danger to the public, they are looking into how the people died, according to police.
