‘Compromise is the name of the game’: AOC says she agrees with Trump coronavirus stimulus measures

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said she and Democrats were willing “put politics aside” and work with President Trump on a coronavirus stimulus package.

“One thing that we need to do is put politics aside, and that’s exactly why Democrats have agreed with President Trump on his goals of paid sick leave and his goals of free coronavirus testing,” the New York Democrat said Thursday on Fox News. “All of those things have been included in our package. We bump it up a little bit more, but, when you have a Democratic House and Republican Senate, compromise is the name of the game.”

“The president is going to have to accept the fact that we are fighting for people who are going to be potentially unemployed. He’s going to have to accept the fact that we are going to push on doctor and nurse protections,” she added.

Trump said he wanted both Republicans and Democrats to “put politics aside” as they work on a coronavirus stimulus package. His administration said earlier this week that they supported paid sick leave for coronavirus patients.

White House officials accused House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday of attempting to stick a Hyde Amendment “slush fund” loophole in the stimulus package. The loophole would have allowed abortion providers access to the stimulus funds.
