A Western Maryland delegate wants to ban the display of “anatomically correct body parts” on motor vehicles, creating his own version of the clean cars bills sailing through the legislature.
The bill would prohibit any item that explicitly resembles or depicts “human or animal genitals, human buttocks or human female breasts,” giving state troopers yet another reason to pull drivers over.
“We go to great lengths to have our citizens have clean air,” Del. Leroy Myers, R-Allegany-Washington, said, “but what about the quality of our eyes?”
Silhouettes of reclining nude women on mud flaps for trucks are old hat. But there are now Internet sites devoted to the sale of accessories that resemble bull testicles ? apparently the rage on the rodeo circuit. Car customizers advertise their ability to produce vehicles that look like female breasts.
Myers got the idea for the ban from a constituent who was concerned about what to tell his young daughter when she said, “Daddy, what?s that on the bumper?”
“We want to make laws to clean our environment, but what about what?s best for our children?” Myers said.
The American Civil Liberties Union said the prohibition may be too broad, since it would ban the display of artwork.
