A 21-year-old woman pleaded guilty to murder Wednesday, saying she shot the victim accidently but went ahead and killed him because she didn’t want him to later identify her for the crime.
Takia Neeley, 21, of Hyattsville admitted to second-degree murder while armed and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence in the slaying of Jason Liser, 32. She faces up to 40 years in prison for the murder charge and 15 for the firearms.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, on Sept. 13, 2009, Neeley walked into a courtyard in the 4000 block of Minnesota Avenue Northeast in the District, and approached Liser who had been sitting on some steps.
Neeley greeted Liser and pulled out the weapon. She said she didn’t mean to shoot Liser, but once the gun went off, she decided to keep firing because she did not want Liser to be able to identify her.
