Report: Suspect identified in AU prof’s slaying

A suspect has been identified in the October slaying of an American University accounting professor.

Montgomery County police are targeting Jorge Rueda Landeros, 41, in the killing of 52-year-old Sue Ann Marcum, the Washington Post reports. Marcum was found bludgeoned to death in her Bethesda home.

Police sources told the Post that Landeros knew Marcum and the two shared an interest in yoga, but their exact relationship wasn’t clear. Landeros has worked as a yoga instructor in the D.C. area and a stockbroker, and writes poetry, the Post reported.

Landeros is believed to be in Mexico. Sources told the Post a warrant has been issued for his arrest, charging him with  murder. The warrant is not public because Landeros has not been served.

An Interpol wanted notice for Landeros says he is wanted in Montgomery County for “crimes against life and health.”

Police initially suspected a District teenager, Deandrew Hamlin, in Marcum’s death. Hamlin was arrested driving a Jeep that was stolen from her home. But police never linked him to the killing, and Hamlin’s lawyer has said he picked up the vehicle when it was abandoned in the District. He was sentenced to probation earlier this month for unauthorized use of a vehicle.
