At Fort Belvoir this Fourth of July, the rockets’ red glare will be a private affair.
The recent discovery of a bomb plot in the United Kingdom led the Army base to move its planned fireworks display from Fremont Field on Route 1 to the southern part of the post, according to spokesman Don Dees. It is no longer open to the public.
He said no specific terrorist threats have been leveled at the base.
“But as a precautionary measure, we felt it was best to relocate [the fireworks display] to a less vulnerable position and to make it available only to ID card holders,” he said.
The event will now take place at Pullen Athletic Field at 9:30 p.m.
Eight suspects were being held Tuesday in the United Kingdom after police discovered two unexploded car bombs in London on Friday and after a Jeep rammed a Glasgow airport the following day, causing a large explosion.
