The face-off between incumbent Republican state Sen. Sandra Schrader and Democrat County Executive James Robey for Schrader?s District 13 seat means one thing: big money.
The two candidates have more money than any other opponents, with the lone exception of the county executive battle.
“For Howard County, it?s a high-stakes race,” said Matt Patton, Robey?s campaign manager. “For the state, it?s a high-stakes race.”
Schrader has more than $131,000 in the bank in her campaign coffers, while Robey possesses more than $107,000.
“We?ve become extremely competitive,” Schrader said. “For me, it?s very costly to try to get your message out.”
Republican State Sen. Allan Kittleman leads the fundraising in District 9, while Democrat Ed Kasemeyer has $11,000 more on hand than challenger Rick Martel in District 12.
Council Member Guy Guzzone, a Democrat, leads a packed race for District 13 delegate, with $148,893 still left to spend.
