First lady Melania Trump’s first public comments since being discharged from the hospital Saturday came Thursday, when she thanked retired U.S. Navy Master Chief Petty Officer Britt Slabinski for his service after he was awarded the Medal Of Honor at the White House.
“Thank you Master Chief Slabinski for your heroic actions,” Trump tweeted. “@POTUS & I are proud to have you @WhiteHouse today to award the #MedalOfHonor.”
“Thank you & thank you to all our military who risk & sacrifice your lives for our freedom,” she continued.

Slabinski was honored for heroic actions he took while serving in Afghanistan in 2002.
The first lady left Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., Saturday morning, five days after undergoing surgery for a benign kidney condition.
She expressed gratitude toward medical staff and well-wishers via Twitter on May 16, but at that time was still recuperating in the hospital.
Trump also issued a brief statement Friday in response to the Santa Fe High School shooting in Texas, in which 10 people were killed by a student gunman.
“My heart goes out to Santa Fe and all of Texas today,” she tweeted.
