Thousands of Connecticut families will soon see checks of up to $750 as part of the state’s child tax rebate relief program.
Gov. Ned Lamont and Department of Revenue Services Commissioner Mark Boughton held a news conference on Thursday morning announcing that the checks, almost 200,000 to 210,000, will come out over the next several days.
“We are so excited because people today are going to go to their mailbox, and they’re going to open that mailbox, and they are going to find a check from the state of Connecticut for the child tax rebate,” Boughton said during the conference.
Rebates have been approved for 189,374 families on behalf of 317,044 children, according to a press release from the governor’s office. An additional 32,808 applications are currently under review by the revenue services department due to either incomplete applications or eligibility issues. If approved, the checks will come out in September.
TAX REBATES 2022: DIRECT ONE-TIME CHECKS WORTH $150 WILL BE SENT OUT IN JUST MONTHS
In total, the governor’s office received 238,668 applications representing 369,863 dependents. The application period was from June 1 to July 31.
The tax rebate program came out of Lamont’s budget bill that he signed in early spring. The provision stated that any taxpayer that claimed a dependent under the age of 18 on their 2021 federal income tax may be eligible for a rebate of up to $250 for a maximum of three children.

“The state budget we enacted this year provides tax relief specifically targeted for middle and lower-income families with children,” Lamont said in a statement. “I am glad that we were able to get this tax relief enacted and sent to families in time for the start of the school year.”
