Donald Trump leads Hillary Clinton by 5 points in a new Bloomberg Politics poll of Ohio, after a rough week for Clinton that raised more questions about her health.
In a head-to-head matchup, Trump leads Clinton 48-43 among likely Ohio voters, and 9 percent are undecided. When third-party candidates are included, the Republican nominee still leads by 5 points, 44-39.
The poll, conducted Friday to Monday, shows the impact of Clinton’s “basket of deplorables” comment about Trump supporters, as well as concerns of her health following a pneumonia diagnosis.
Trump has a 43-point lead among white men without a college degree, and a 23-point lead among white women without a college degree. With white men overall, Trump has a 27-point lead.
Clinton does best in the northeast of Ohio, including Cleveland and Youngstown, typically Democratic strongholds.
No presidential nominee has won the general election without winning in Ohio since 1964. But Trump seems to have a shot, as he Trump is viewed slightly more favorably than Clinton among Ohio voters: 45-40.
The poll of 802 likely Ohio voters was conducted Sept. 8-12 and carries an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. In contrast, a RealClearPolitics average of Ohio polls gives Clinton a slight edge over Trump, 44.3 percent to 44 percent.
