THE 3-MINUTE INTERVIEW:

The 35-year-old actor and jazz musician is tapping into social networking on Facebook and Twitter to help organize a flash mob to converge on the Red Line during rush hour next Monday and break out into caroling. What are you organizing for next Monday evening?

This is something where we are gathering people together who want to make merry on the Metro system, which I feel like too often can be too drab especially during rush hour. And everyone loves this time of year and everyone loves to sing. It’s just going to be a lot of fun…We made this Facebook invite [Sunday] and it’s already kind of blown up.

When did you get this idea?

I thought of it maybe about four or five days ago … I sang at the Kennedy Center Honors [Sunday] and everyone I mentioned it to was like, “Yes, yes, count me in.” There couldn’t be any more positive reaction to it.

So will it be on the cars or the platform?

My original idea was to have it on the cars. Everyone is just hanging onto the strap, then someone counts it off and half the car starts singing, which would be amazing. Hopefully we get some of it on video as well. If we get a ton more reaction, then we may have to do it on the subway platforms. Either way, the whole idea would be to do it unannounced, then keep moving station to station, and keep spreading the joy. I feel like D.C. kind of needs that.

How many have signed up so far?

Now over 50, which is not bad considering it’s been out for about 12 hours. I don’t know how Metro is going to feel about this. I may get another kind of phone call. But you know, what are they going to do? Are they going to tell us we can’t sing Christmas carols on the train?
