‘Americans will suffer’: Hillary Clinton condemns Trump for planning to wind down coronavirus task force

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton criticized the Trump administration for announcing it would be winding down the coronavirus task force.

Vice President Mike Pence announced Tuesday that the White House Coronavirus Task Force would be disbanding later this month, around Memorial Day. In response to the announcement, Clinton said that the decision was proof that the administration does not have a plan to address the virus.

“It appears the plan is, shamefully, to have no plan,” she said. “Americans will suffer. We must replace this administration in November.”

The White House plans to wind down the task force, but Pence noted that members of the group would still be advising the president as they begin to disperse.

“We’re going to keep Dr. Deborah Birx around every bit as long as we need to,” he added.

Pence said the decision to begin disbanding the task force highlights the progress he believes the country could face over the next month. He said the federal government will be ready to resume in a “more traditional manner.”

“I truly believe, and the trend lines support it, that we could be in a very different place by late May or early June,” he said.

Clinton has already endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race.
