President Trump suggested Sunday morning on Twitter that “‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen” should “go back” to their home countries.
“So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly……” Trump said in the first of three tweets on the topic.
“….And viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how….,” he added, “….it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”

Trump was apparently referring to outspoken Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts. Of these, only Omar is an immigrant, whose family entered the United States in 1992 after having fled a civil war in Somalia.

Trump’s sentiments echo those of Fox News host Tucker Carlson, whom Omar attacked last week after he accused her being the “fire alarm” that exposes the dangers of unfettered immigration.
“She isn’t grateful,” Carlson said of Omar’s attitude, adding that “she hates this country more than ever.” Omar responded by calling him a “racist fool.”
Trump’s claim that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would be “very happy” to help if they wanted to “go back” is a likely reference to the ongoing feud between the speaker and the new members of the caucus. After some back-and-forth, Ocasio-Cortez claimed last week that Pelosi is “outright disrespectful” to the new congresswomen of color.
“I think Cortez is being very disrespectful to someone who’s been there a long time,” Trump said to reporters Friday, adding, “[Pelosi] is not a racist. For them to call her a racist is a disgrace.”
