Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted was heckled by the crowd at President Trump’s rally for urging people to wear masks.
The Republican spoke at a Trump rally outside of Dayton, Ohio, on Monday when Trump supporters eager to hear the president started booing him and encouraging him to “get off the stage,” according to Cleveland.com. He suggested that even if they don’t like masks, they should wear a Trump-inspired one, but it was not well-received by those in attendance.
“Hang on, I get it,” Husted said. “You don’t like it. But if you go into a grocery store where you got to wear one … Just listen up.”
“All right, I get it,” he shouted over the boos. “But if somebody tells you to take it off, you can at least say that you’re trying to save the country by wearing one of President Donald Trump’s masks.”
Some Republicans in Ohio have been very critical of the state’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Three Ohio Republicans even drafted articles of impeachment against the state’s Republican Gov. Mike DeWine for “unconstitutionally” closing businesses and violating civil liberties and due process by implementing “stay-at-home” orders.
The president gave shoutouts to DeWine, who he said was a “real good friend,” and Husted at the rally.
