Chevy?s Fresh Mex leaves diners ?happily full?

These days, people have to be careful about eating Mexican food on the go in the middle of a busy mall. But I can honestly say that I left Chevy?s Fresh Mex happily full, without the regret folks often feel hours after a spicy meal.

After a long day of shopping, we were looking for a cheap, quick meal that would perk us up for the rest of our excursion. Chevy?s Fresh Mex, a Mexican-style restaurant in the middle of Arundel Mills Mall, seemed perfect.

As soon as the hostess seated us, the waitress placed a large bowl of tortilla chips, thin and crispy, on our table along with some spicy salsa and warm gooey queso. The menu includes Mexican classics like quesadillas, fajitas and chimichangas.

My grilled chicken tacos came served on a warm, soft tortilla with so much filling I could barely close the ends. The shredded chicken was juicy, the lettuce fresh and the blending of pico de gallo, chipotle aioli and enough Cotija cheese to give a nice flavor and a crumbly texture.

My friend had the crispy flautas, which included salsa shredded chicken, red peppers, corn and cheese rolled into flour tortillas. Served with hot rice and beans, this dish was presented nicely and tasted about as good as it looked. The chicken was a little mushy but for the most part edible, while the red peppers were fresh and juicy. With a perfect balance of ingredients, the overall flavor was wonderfully spicy.

The grilled chicken Caesar salad was good and with roasted red peppers and tortilla strips, a nice Mexican twist on a classic.

The best part of eating at Chevy?s was that for myself and two dining companions, the entire meal was under $40.

We decided that Chevy?s is certainly not authentic, mouth-watering food, but can satisfy if you are craving a cheap meal with Mexican flavor.
