Asians driving growth in Maryland’s outlying metro areas

If you live in either Montgomery or Prince George’s counties, it probably comes as no surprise that those areas are becoming more diverse, driven largely by a surge in the Hispanic population of the Washington suburbs.

But counties bordering the metro area are also getting their share of diversity, driven largely by increasing numbers of Asian residents. According to the U.S. Census numbers released Wednesday, Frederick County’s Asian population nearly tripled in the last decade, increasing to nearly 9,000 residents in 2010. The increase marks the largest of any demographic group for that county.

In Howard County, Asian residents more than doubled over the last decade, totaling more than 41,000 in 2010.
