The Cincinnati Bengals won their division and made it to the playoffs but are having difficulty selling enough tickets to this weekend’s game against the San Diego Chargers to avoid a local television blackout.
As local station WCPO reports:
This blackout business is the evil spawn of a collaboration between the government (Federal Communications Commission) and an exceedingly well-connected cartel – the NFL. Which might account for the resemblance to Obamacare. First, in the definition a “sellout” as a game for which 85 percent of seating is paid for. And, then, in the arbitrary extension of deadlines. And, finally, in the haste of opportunistic politicians to jump on a bandwagon of public resentment.
What we need now is for one of them to say, If you like your home team …
