Police say Nasim Najafi Aghdam, the suspected shooter in the attack on YouTube headquarters Tuesday afternoon, practiced at a gun range in the morning hours before the shooting.
San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini did not disclose which gun range Aghdam visited, but he said a 9mm handgun that was registered to Aghdam was used in the attack at the San Bruno complex.
Police have determined that the attack was motivated by Aghdam’s displeasure with YouTube’s policies.
“We know she was upset with YouTube, and now we’ve determined that was the motive,” Barberini said.
Police are probing a website that features Aghdam criticizing YouTube for their policies restricting her videos.
“There is no equal growth opportunity on YOUTUBE or any other video sharing site, your channel will grow if they want to!!!!!” one post on the website says. “Youtube filtered my channels to keep them from getting views!”
Before the attack, Aghdam’s family contacted police to report her missing from San Diego.
Mountain View Police said that her father and brother did not “mention anything about potential acts of violence,” but called the police department back and said Aghdam had made vegan videos and that YouTube had “done something to her videos that had caused her to become upset.”
Mountain View Police found Aghdam that day in her car at approximately 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday. They said she was “cooperative” and did not say anything about YouTube.
Aghdam’s brother claimed he informed police “she went all the way from San Diego, so she might do something.”
Aghdam opened fire at YouTube headquarters Tuesday afternoon. Minutes later, police arrived and found Aghdam dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
She also shot and wounded three people who were taken to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital for treatment. Two have been released, but one is still in serious condition.
According to Barberini, she did not have a connection to those three people.
YouTube announced on Wednesday that the video-sharing company will beef up security at its offices all over the world.
