Navy searches for sailor who went overboard in Arabian Sea

Navy ships in the Arabian Sea are engaged in search and rescue operation for a sailor who was reported overboard on Wednesday, according to Navy officials.

The sailor, whose name is being withheld by the Navy for privacy reasons, was a member of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier. A contingent of U.S. and international ships are participating in the search.

“Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), Ticonderoga-class cruiser USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55), Spanish Álvaro de Bazán-class frigate Méndez Núñez (F 104) and Pakistan Navy Ship PSN Aslat (F265) are currently conducting search and rescue operations in the Arabian Sea following reports of a missing U.S. Navy Sailor,” a statement from the Navy’s 5th Fleet said, according to CNN.

The Lincoln carrier strike group was deployed to the Arabian Sea last month in response to rising tensions between the U.S. and Iran.
